Stephen Smith is the Senior Clerk to chambers. He came to Hailsham Chambers (formerly 4 Paper Buildings) in 1975 and was made First Junior Clerk in 1977. In 1982 he was appointed Senior Clerk and was then the youngest senior clerk in the Temple.
He has enormous experience in running a busy set of chambers and, with the assistance of Michael Kilbey, Stuart Paley and the full clerking team, has adapted all aspects of clerking and administration to meet the demands of both professional and lay clients in today's competitive market.
He maintains a close working relationship with each member of chambers, our instructing solicitors, our international clients, as well as all other clients who instruct chambers on a direct-access basis.
His policy has always been to offer an open, friendly and efficient service to professional and lay clients. He is a member of the Institute of Barristers' Clerks.
